Food is a source of energy. Food can vary from fruits, meats, vegetables, fats, and oils. But we should not take this source of energy for granted. We cannot eat until we no longer can take anymore, rather than eat until our stomach is content. Eat to live, not live to eat. We should not exceed the daily limit of calories. We should consider the foods we intake because it helps determine where we’ll be in 20 years or more.
Eating healthy food can lead to good cholesterol, longer life span, and less vulnerability to many diseases. At the age of a teenager we finally realize what kind of food we are fed and eating. Thus, we have the capability of controlling what we eat everyday. Being a teenager, we are given the metabolism and stamina that lasts throughout the day. When eating the right foods it can help contribute more to the benefits of being a teen.
Once you hit the age of teens you need more food for all the energy that will be needed throughout the day. Therefore your intake is about the same as adult. According to the U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) 8 – 10% of calorie intake should be protein. Carbohydrates should take up 55% of the total calorie intake. The intake of fat should be less than 30% of total calories. These daily allowances should not be exceeded overly for they are set to help us prevent consequences that may come from eating the wrong foods or over eating.
It is possible for people to live off the land eating raw foods that it provides. Meat is not a necessary when it comes to eating food. The downfall of being a vegan (similar to vegetarian but does not eat dairy products/animal products at all) is that Vitamin B-12 is not supplemented. Thus, you can take a pill or other alternatives that give Vitamin B-12. Eating green vegetables such as spinach and broccoli exceed the RDA, but in a healthy and good way by giving off protein. Good sources of natural carbohydrates are potatoes, whole wheat, and grains. There are no fats when you are eating raw foods but animals products like milk do have fat in it.
Animal and the food they produce is second hand nutrients. If you were to look at a food chain you would see that the primary consumer i.e. cows eat grass. The only reason that they’re so filled with these nutrients is because of the foods they eat. If we were to eat the cow it’s secondhand. This shows that eating directly at the source like raw foods is better than eating animals. There is also environmental issues concerning raising these animals for food. Overall, we should avoid animal food and go straight to the source of necessary energy.
